Infrastructure Asset Management of Urban Water Systems

IAM methods partially differ from those applicable to managing other types of assets. One of the reasons is the fact that such infrastructures have indefinite lives, in order to satisfy the permanent needs of a specific public service. Infrastructures are not replaceable as a whole, only piecemeal. Consequently, in a mature infrastructure, all phases of assets lifetime coex‐ ist. Additionally, ...

Infrastructure pricing and competition between modes in urban transport

Privatization of transit and roads is gaining increasing interest. This paper develops a model in which infrastructure pricing and optimal capacity are analyzed under both public and private regimes. It compares optimal outputs (number of passengers) and capacities of public and private operators of rail transport. A crucial aspect of the paper is competition between modes: for instance, how ar...

Designing a Solid Waste Infrastructure Management Model for Integration into a National Infrastructure System-of Systems

Solid waste management is arguably one of the most important municipal services provided by government1. Given the rapid socio-economic changes that are projected to take place in the UK2 it is important that we plan our future waste management capacity to ensure the continuance of this valuable service. The Solid Waste Infrastructure Management System (SWIMS) model was designed to model the cu...

Also, more and more small scale dispersed generators are being deployed in the distribution net. This puts extra stress on the power grid in an era where electricity is one of the most important commodities for economical, industrial and eve...
